In clinical testing, ammonia is a toxic substance that can act particularly strongly on the central nervous systems, causing impaired consciousness. Measurements of the blood concentration level of ammonia must be done quickly, and it is often necessary to do the measurements at the bedside particularly for children. Fujifilm’s other Dri-Chem analyzers can measure many substances besides ammonia, but by specializing in ammonia, this unit achieves reduced size and cost that make it more physically and economically convenient for placement where needed in hospitals.
